Sindh Rangers on Wednesday produced Minhaj Qazi, a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) and informed it about his 90 days preventive detention for questioning.
The Rangers along with its counsel produced the suspect before administrative judge of ATC, Justice Muhammad Farooq Shah, under tight security. The paramilitary force told the judge that they had credible information about the accused’s involvement in killing, extortion and other offences which come within the ambit of Anti-Terrorism Act. The Rangers informed the court that Qazi was arrested in a raid conducted on Friday.
The court allowed the Rangers to detain the MQM worker for the period of three months. It also directed to form a joint investigation team (JIT).
According to sources, Qazi was at MQM’s headquarters, Nine-Zero, along with Amir Khan when the Rangers raided there on 11th of March 2015, but he managed to flee and had been off the scene since then. Qazi was allegedly involved in providing shelter to alleged terrorists who were arrested from Nine-Zero.
Earlier, the ATC had issued his non-bailable arrest warrants along with other party workers Raees alias Mama, Shehzad alias Mullah, Naeem and Imran Aijaz in Amir Khan’s case of instigating terrorism and harboring criminals.
