Peshawar to have its first zoo in 8 months

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has ordered completion of the Peshawar Zoo Project within eight months to provide recreational facilities to the Peshawarites declaring that government will ensure provision of financial resources for the efficient implementation of the project.

He was addressing at the ground breaking ceremony of Peshawar Zoo project at PFI (Pakistan Forest Institute). Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan was also present on the occasion. Provincial ministers elected representatives, dignitaries and environmentalists attended the ceremony. The CM formally performed ground breaking of the project.

Addressing the ceremony the CM KP said that special attention was being given to the development and beautification of the provincial capital.

The CM said that starting work on the Peshawar Zoo project was a practical step to provide recreational facilities to the dwellers of Peshawar. While directing to speed up work on the project to complete all the three phases of the project within eight months, he assured that there would be no shortage of funds and that the process of reforms and development had been initiated in each institution. He added that now the people were witnessing visible changes in the province.

Referring to developmental and beautification strategy being adopted for the provincial metropolis, Khattak said that food street would be established in Hayatabad next month while one would also be arranged in the interior city. He said that work on improvement of the roads of the city was in full swing.

Khattak said that for the first time in the history of the province, mega environmental project, Billion Tree Tsunami was initiated. Under this project, he said, one billion trees would be planted in the province while participation of youth and women would be ensured in the project also. “This project will create employment opportunities”, he remarked.

Khattak said that private sector was being involved in the reform process to create sense of ownership of institutions among the people. He divulged that govt was following the policy of non interference and was just playing the role of implementer and monitor to strengthen institutions. He hoped that people would see a visible change after the present government would complete its tenure.
