Multiple protests held against Punjab govt

The Punjab Union of Journalist, Awami Workers Party, People’s Democratic Front Pakistan and the National Student Federation Pakistan on Wednesday staged demonstrations against the killings of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) workers.

The protesters including employees of several organisations holding placards shouted slogans against the government. They also condemned the poor treatment of media persons at the hands of the security personnel. The multiple protests were held in different parts of the provincial capital.

They said that the journalists were covering the PIA protest, but the law enforcers stopped them forcibly and even tortured them. They demanded the government to take action against the culprits, or prepare to face further protests.

The said that the persons who authorised use of force should be immediately dismissed from service and be tried under relevant laws. They also condemned the imposition of the Essential Services Act and asked the government to immediately revoke the law.
