As many as 143 children under five years of age have died due to various diseases in Tharparkar district of Sindh province during the last four months.
According to the report issued by the Sindh health department, at least 143 children under five years of age have died due to various diseases like malnutrition, starvation, premature births, drought and lack of health facilities in Tharparkar district in last four months.
The report further revealed that 6,362 children were brought to various hospitals’ OPDs in the month of October 2015, out of which 542 were admitted for treatment, while 31 died during treatment. In November 2015, 5,940 children with various pediatric ailments were shifted to healthcare centers, out of which 458 were admitted for treatment, while 28 died later due to multiple reasons. It stated that 7036 children were shifted to public hospitals in various areas of Thar in the month of December 2015, out of which 722 got admissions for treatment while 44 died during treatment.
Similarly, malnutrition, starvation, and lack of health facilities claimed 40 lives in first month of 2016 out of 877 admissions. More than 8,778 children under five years of age were brought to the hospitals in the month of January.
A total 2,80,00 children were brought to different hospitals of Tharparkar in four months, out of which 2,599 were admitted for treatment in this time period.
