Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Sunday that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had no links with Uzair Baloch as the provincial government itself was taking action against such criminals.

Talking to media personnel at the Multan airport, he said that Zulfiqar Mirza and Uzair Baloch were friends and used to meet each other frequently.

The chief minister said that he was not aware of the date of Baloch’s arrest. He said that he had no differences with the federal government over the arrest of Lyari gang war leader Uzair Baloch.

“When was he (Uzair Baloch) arrested? I have no idea but people are saying that Uzair Jan was arrested from Pakistan,” he said. Shah further said that law and order situation in Sindh had been poor for the past 30 years, but things were a lot better now. He also lauded the army chief and said that whenever Gen Raheel Sharif came to Karachi, he met him.

To a query about corruption in Sindh, Shah said corruption was not confined to Sindh alone. “Corruption has been a problem for the whole of Pakistan.” He, however, added that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Anti-Corruption department were present to eradicate this menace.

Dispelling the impression of a row with the federal government, he said that there was no confrontation between Sindh and the federal government but that there were some reservations which had been conveyed to the federal government.

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was a good man, but complained that whenever he came to Karachi, he only held discussions on terrorism. “He never discusses energy, health and education with us,” he added.

Shah further said that the provinces should be devolved powers completely under the 18th Amendment, adding that they could generate electricity if Sindh was given its due share in accordance with the NFC award.

“I discussed it with (Finance Minister) Ishaq Dar but he doesn’t give a clear answer,” Shah said, and added that electricity can cost Rs 5 per unit if produced with coal.

Earlier, Shah visited the Gilani house and expressed condolence with former prime minister and PPP central leader Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on the death of his nephew and former MNA Syed Asad Murtaza Gillani who had passed away in the stampede while performing Haj.
