Our ‘setting’ is only with mission, country and nation: Rangers DG

Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar said on Sunday that his paramilitary force’s ‘setting’ was only with its mission, the country and the nation as he ruled out any collusion in the ongoing operation against criminals and terrorists in Karachi.

Speaking at the prize-distribution ceremony of a car rally in Hub, he said the number of Rangers’ actions were directly proportional to the number of criminals. When enemies were in greater numbers then more raids would take place and vice versa, he added.

Maj Gen Akbar said the paramilitary force was alleged of being involved in some sort of “setting”. Rangers had setting only with their mission, Pakistan and the nation, he added.

He said the pace of military and paramilitary operations vary according to the situation, ruling out the general perception that the Karachi operation had been slowed down.

The Rangers DG also vowed to continue playing role in improving the law and order and security situation of Sindh including Karachi. “We are making progress with keeping a close watch on gangsters, militant wings (of some political parties) and few organisations which were involved in terrorist activities, said Maj Gen Bilal Akbar. “Our mission is to improve life style of people of Karachi and interior Sindh,” he said.

“We need to counter the uncertainty being created by certain people through organised crime during the last 20 to 25 years. We are trying to arrest these elements and actors. We will benefit from better security situation and resolve the factors that contributed in creating such an environment.”
