Despite crashing out on the second run of the giant slalom in Maribor, Lindsey Vonn maintained her lead of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup overall standings as Viktoria Rebensburg claimed victory.
Having ended the first run in Slovenia on Saturday 12th fastest, Vonn went sliding off the course on her second attempt but remains 45 points ahead of Lara Gut.
Swiss Gut also failed on her second run, with German Rebensburg overhauling Eva-Maria Brem to take the maximum 100 points.
Rebensburg had trailed Brem winner of the giant slalom in Courchevel last month by 0.37 seconds after the first run, the Austrian leading with a time of one minute and 12.85secs.
Home hope Ana Drev surged up from sixth to take the lead but her hopes of a maiden World Cup win were ended by an excellent performance from Rebensburg for the second time this month.
Rebensburg recovered from an untidy start to her second effort with a run of 1:16.60.
Brem subsequently lost time in the latter stages of her final run and was left to settle for fourth as she finished 0.41secs down on Rebensburg – who recorded a second successive giant slalom win.
Drev was once again second, having finished in the same position in Rebensburg’s last win at Flachau, with Tina Weirather taking third.
Rebensburg is third in the overall standings on 680 points, 220 down on Vonn, and now trails Brem by just 32 points in the giant slalom rankings.
