Joint Action Committee of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Chairman Sohail Baloch said on Sunday that the PIA employees would stand firm on the decision to halt flight operations from February 2.

Speaking at a press conference, Baloch said that they had given the PIA administration Monday (today)’s deadline to resolve the issue. He said that if the Privatisation Commission chairman does not listen to Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif then there was nothing they could offer the employees.

Baloch asked that if the PM can appoint a minister like Saad Rafique for Pakistan Railways then why he does not do the same for PIA. He said that they were ready for everything from arrests to baton charges but that they would not turn back from their demands.

Joint Action Committee has been staging protests in various cities including Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Quetta since January 26 against the passing of the bill for PIA’s privatisation in the National Assembly.

On Friday, the government announced to postpone the privatisation of PIA for six months. The announcement was made by Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan in a press conference. He announced that no employee would be sacked from PIA and called upon them to come back to work to improve the performance of the airline.
