Postal deptt naib qasid announces decision not to seek extension

Islamabad – Our Extension Correspondent: To much fanfare, Arshad Bhatti, a naib qasid in the Postal Department, has announced his decision not to seek an extension and retire on time.

Bhatti, who is currently serving in the Pakistan Postal Services Academy, announced this decision to reporters on Saturday at the academy auditorium. “I don’t believe in the extensions,” he said. “I am a professional and will retire on time.”

“There is simply no question of extension,” he added. “I mean, really. There isn’t.”

News of Bhatti’s decision spread like wildfire on not only social media but also the mainstream media. An international trend of #thankyouarshadbhatti was started by his fans and a series of talk shows on live television were devoted to the event.

“We would like to thank Arshad Bhatti for his exemplary professionalism. By doing this, he has not only proved that he is a thorough professional, but he has also indicated that the Postal Department as a whole is capable of producing another naib qasid of his calibre,” said Mubasher Lucman, a news anchor.

Other anchors, however, were adamant that Bhatti should continue serving. “That is a must, for the larger common interest,” said Dr Moeed Pirzada. “To that end, I suggest someone (cough, cough) should draft Bhatti’s extension orders, break into his supervisor’s house at night while he is sleeping, and get his thumbprints on those orders.”

“Sounds drastic, I know, but people do it all the time.”
