NAB launches inquiry into rickshaw scheme for Lyari jobless

A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an inquiry into an alleged scam in the rickshaw scheme for the jobless of Karachi’s Lyari area on Friday.

Sources said that Provincial Minister Akhtar Jadoon had been summoned by the accountability department whereas his secretary Sarwar has been arrested for alleged embezzlement in funds.

The minister’s secretary has confessed that only 500 out of 2,000 rickshaws have been distributed among the people of Lyari.

According to sources, around 420 million rupees of funds have been embezzled in the scam. An inflated selling price of Rs 2,50,000 has been mentioned for each rickshaw whereas the actual price of each vehicle was stated Rs 1,50,000 each, sources added.
