BLLF welcomes govt action against kiln owners

Bonded Labour Liberation Front (BLLF) general secretary and labour rights activist Syeda Ghulam Fatima has welcomed the action against brick-kiln owners, terming it a wise decision by the government.

She said that instead of having a book and pen, the children with their fragile hands were forced for making bricks.

Fatima urged the government to continue its action against the child labour so that their future could be secured.

Fatima also appreciated the government for constituting vigilance committee to address issues of child labour at brick-kilns across the country.

Appreciating the new law in Punjab regarding child labuor at brick-kilns, she said the district administration should adopt and implement the law in letter and spirit.

It is pertinent to mention here that hundreds of brick kilns owners have staged demonstrations in various cities of the Punjab against the administration’s drive to eliminate child labour at brick-kilns.

“The revival of labour laws would help empower institutions for poverty alleviation and participatory development at grass root level,” she added.

Meanwhile, the official of Ministry of Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development told APP that the ministry was mandated to perform the functions, broadly related to policy formulation regarding labour administration, manpower planning and employment promotion.

He said the federal government was functioning in close coordination with the provincial governments to revive new labour and employment laws.
