WB to provide Rs290m to WASA

The World Bank (WB) will provide a grant of Rs290 million to WASA Rawalpindi for installation of metering system in tube wells, renovation of filtration plants and replacement of Rawal Dam machinery.

According to WASA sources, the financial assistance will be spent on repair and maintenance work. In the first phase, old machinery of 100 tube wells will be replaced. Larger pumps will be replaced with small sized pumps to conserve energy. Meters will be installed on 350 tube-wells to assess how much water was being obtained from these tube wells and water was being supplied to respective localities at what quantum. The 24 inches diameter water pipeline, which is installed upto Asghar Mall Chowk, will be extended upto Banni Chowk.

In the first phase renovation work in respect of 30 filtration plants will be carried out as well.  The sources said that a feasibility report in this regard has been completed.
