Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees continued their protest against the upcoming privatisation of the organisation on the second day on the call of the Joint Action Committee of the employees.
The employees started their protest against the privatisation of the national carrier on Tuesday.
The airline’s employees locked up the offices in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and other cities on Tuesday, denying entry to the PIA chairman and other officials in PIA offices. The continued on Wednesday with the employees present at the airport.
The employees have also threatened to suspend flight operations from February 2 if the government doesn’t withdraw its decision to privatise the national airline.
The PIA chairman said in a statement that the problems could not be resolved with strikes and protests and warned that employees’ protests would damage the airline.
The PIA employees began their protest following the privatisation bill which was passed by the National Assembly a couple of days ago despite opposition’s protest.
PIA booking officers across the country have been closed by the employees to register their protest.
The employees’ action committee has said that the protest will continue till the withdrawal of the government’s decision to privatise the airline.
