Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that Pakistan attached high importance to its relations with Maldives, which were based on cordiality and common interests.
The prime minister was talking to Dunya Maumoon, Foreign Minister of Maldives, who called on him here at the PM House.
He said that both the countries needed to benefit from the vast potential in the area of trade, and Pakistan would continue to support Maldives under Special Assistance Programme for South Asia.
Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan had been successfully waging a relentless war against terrorism and the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb had produced positive results.
Pakistan supported and would extend all possible cooperation to the initiatives of neighbouring countries to curb and eliminate the menace of terrorism, he added.
He said that Pakistan and Maldives needed to specifically enhance their cooperation in the field of tourism to benefit from the huge potential in that regard.
Dunya Maumoon extended invitation to Nawaz Sharif to visit Maldives and delivered a letter of the president Maldives on the occasion. She thanked him for Pakistan’s continued support to Maldives.
