Non availability of gas in the severe cold weather in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has forced the residents to use alternatives means of energy, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and firewood to fulfil their needs but finding quality LPG at control rates is a million dollar question.

People in the miserably chilly weather were seen carrying LPG gas cylinders in their hands or motorbikes, keep on searching for LPG refilling, in most part of the day.

LPG dealers taking advantage of the situation charged high prices. There are number of seasonal LPG dealers who are selling low quality LPG to consumers at exorbitant price.

People while complaining the high price and low quality of LPG said “Finding good quality of LPG at control rate is a major issue, there are number of dealers in the city who are charging extra money from us but giving low quality of gas.”

They complaint that LPG dealers are selling gas in black market and most of the gas agencies are illegal, as they don’t have licenses but are taking advantage as no one from the concerned government department checks their illegal practice.

They further complaint that on one side government has failed to provide gas to its domestic consumers and on the other it is not checking those who are engaged in the nasty business and swindling the consumers.

On the other hand the LPG dealers explained that they are getting gas on high price from wholesale dealers and therefore compelled to charge high price from the consumers. They suggested the government should control price of LPG at the wholesale level for the relief of the masses, otherwise the burden of high price would continue to transfer to the commoners.
