A senior official of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Wednesday said that the 20 bedded burn centre at PIMS cannot entertain the growing number of patients from across the country,
Dr Tariq said that because of limited resources and extraordinary burden on it currently, the burn center can contribute a little in managing burn victims, due to which around 17 to 18 patients with severe burn injuries were being denied admission in the hospital daily.
He further said that because of non-availability of beds at the centre, most of the burn patients are referred to the regional burn units.
Some times because of absence of proper treatment facilities and trained staff in public hospitals, the situation was even resulting in the deaths of many, he added.
He further said that initially, the burn centre at PIMS was established to treat burn victims of federal capital, but the facility received burn patients from Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Kashmir region
