Enraged people vandalise fences of metro train site

The enraged locals in Samanabad Wednesday staged a protest and broke fences of under-construction metro train.

Locals blocked the roads by burning tyres that badly disrupted the flow of traffic while the protesters ransacked the public property along the road side.

According to details, the protests erupted over non-payment of compensation money for land and resulted in offering symbolic funeral of the project. Security personnel tried to keep the mob at bay but they failed as the locals were not ready to listen anything. Officers dispersed the people and promised to form a committee to look into the matter.

On the other hand, the heavy machinery and construction material scattered on the roads irked the people.

The Punjab government had signed a project with Chairman of the Chinese National Development Reforms Commission regarding construction of a metro train in Lahore.

The project will cost $1.6 billion and it will complete within 27 months. The train route will be 27.1 kilometer long spread from Ali Town to Thokar Niaz Baig, from Multan Road to Scheme Mor.
