Drowned Pakistani girl’s body found from San Francisco beach

The body of 19-year old Pakistani girl Shireen Ahsan, who along with another student, was swept away by sea on Monday, was on Wednesday found at Strawberry Beach in Wilder State Ranch, Santa Cruz in San Francisco.

Ahsan and 25-year old Solaiman Nourzaie, were swept away by sea on Monday of last week. Her body was spotted by a biker who then notified the authorities. Her family was notified afterwards, according to a private news channel.

The accident occurred when a group of five students including, Ahsan and Nourzaie, climbed down a rope to rocky base near the Bonny Doon Beach. The two of them were pulled in by strong currents of a 10-15 foot wave. The rest of the three managed to survive by swimming to a rocky cliff base.

Ahsan’s father said he was devastated after learning of the accident.

Originally from Palo Alto, Shireen was a student at University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC). Both Ahsan and Nourzaie were honor roll students and part of UCSC’s Muslim Student’s Association.

UC Santa Cruz Chancellor George Blumenthal offered her condolences and expressed her grief.

A gathering in memory of the lost students was planned by the University.
