Promotion of religious harmony collective responsibility: minister

 

Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that promotion of religious harmony is a collective responsibility and civil society and media can supplement the efforts of the government in this regard.

He was addressing a seminar on religious harmony arranged by Minorities Affairs and Human Rights Department at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday.

Provincial Secretary Bushra Aman, Tariq Naseem Gill, Kanji Ram, Shehzad Munshi, former Secretary Arshad bin Ahmad, Director Federal Ministry for Law and Justice Lubna Zaheer, Justice(r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Chairperson Women Commission Fauzia Vaqar, Absar Abdul Ali and others spoke on the occasion and threw light on the need and importance of religious harmony.

Sandhu said that Pakistan is a beautiful country of people having different religions and faiths. He said that all religions teach peace, brotherhood and religious harmony. He said the world is facing terrorism and extremism due to some self-motivated elements and there is a need to foil their designs in the interest of humanity. He said that meaningful education is the key to peace and solidarity of the country. He further said that collective efforts are needed to promote peace, harmony, tolerance and brotherhood in the society. The minister said that Religious Harmony Committees of Human Rights Department set up at district level are playing an important role in promoting peace and harmony in the society.
