A Lahore High Court division bench Tuesday dismissed a petition against arrest of Hammad Arshad, involved in 16 billion DHA City (Lahore) scam.
The bench headed by Justice Muhammad Tariq Abbasi heard the petition.
During the hearing, Hammad Arshad’s counsel assailing his client’s arrest and physical remand submitted that the LHC had restrained NAB from taking any coercive measures against the accused. But, despite the clear orders of the court, the NAB arrested the accused and also got physical remand, he added. He contended that the arrest and subsequent physical remand was a violation of the court orders.
However, NAB’s additional prosecutor general told the bench that the arrest was made in accordance with law. He pleaded the bench to dismiss the petition.
The bench after hearing arguments of both parties dismissed the petition.
Meanwhile, an accountability court on Tuesday extended the physical remand of Hammad Arshad for another 12 days.
The NAB officials produced the accused before Accountability Court Judge Khaqan Babar and requested the court to extend the physical remand for further investigations.
The NAB had arrested Hammad Arshad on charges of corruption and cheating people. The accused collected money from the general public to the tune of Rs 15.47 billion. Later, he transferred the money to his personal accounts and used it for his personal gains and invested in other business ventures.
