Pakistan’s former foreign minister Sahibzada Yaqub Ali Khan passed away on late Monday night.
Yaqub was 95 years old.
As a lieutenant general, Khan had served as chief of the general staff, governor of the then East Pakistan and later as the chief of the eastern command and martial law administrator before his retirement.
He also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US under the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto government and later as foreign minister in Gen Ziaul Haq’s regime.
He was caretaker foreign minister in 1996.
ILIR. He was the longest serving FM of Pakistan, without any affiliation with any political party nor had any charge-sheet against. He was the only diplomat having commend on Russian language beside other languages.
