The Rawalpindi administration has directed all the educational institutions to make foolproof security arrangements till Jan 28 (Thursday) after receiving terror threats as the Punjab government on Tuesday closed schools and colleges in the province till Jan 31 on account of cold weather conditions.
Acting Commissioner Rawalpindi Sajid Fakhar Dal, while chairing a meeting, issued the directive for both government and private educational institutions to beef up security within three days, after which violators would be taken to task.
The meeting was attended by Regional Police Officer (RPO), Wasaal Zaffar Sultan, City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Abbasi, Assistance Commissioner and EDO Education Qazi Zahoorul Haq.
The institutions, which did not adopt standard security measure, would be sealed and cases against their managements would be registered, it was decided.
Meanwhile, all the government and private schools did not open on Tuesday as per provincial government’s decision taken late Monday night. Students surprised to find their schools closed when they reached their institutions to attend classes.
According to Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashood, the decision for the closure of schools till Jan 31 was made after consensus during a high level meeting in view of the extremely cold weather. The attendance in schools had been thin for the last five day, he added.
It was also decided that the teachers would be provided training for saving children during a terrorist attack.
