Pakistan plans to revive container train service to Turkey

Pakistan is actively pursuing to resume container train service to Turkey via Iran.

According to a report quoting sources in the Railways Ministry in Islamabad, an MoU has been signed with Turkish Railway for revival of freight train service to help promote trade.

Train operations between Pakistan and Turkey through Iran were inaugurated during 2009 under the auspices of Economic Cooperation Organisation.

  1. It is important that aligns its track standards including its width with Iran, Turkey and China. Only then, this project as well CPEC will bear economic fruits. Having an odd track which is found no where else in the world, certainly non among any of our neighbors except India is more of a curse than of any beneficial use. Our train tracks are hindering our trade linkages as well as tourism growth.

    Next thing after railway track standards alignment should be switching traffic from Left hand (British System) to Right hand International system. Again none of our immediate neighbors except India has this outdated traffic system. It is also hindering growth in tourism and our trade linkages with rest of the world.
