- Mashhood instructs officials to strictly implement SOPs laid down for security of educational institutions
Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has directed the EDOs (Education) to strictly implement the SOPs laid down for security of all educational institutions across the province.
Addressing a meeting of the EDOs (Education), the minister said that Pakistan was in a state of war and all-out safety measures were necessary for protection of educational institutions from becoming an easy target of terrorists.
Mashhood directed that boundary walls of educational institutions be raised to a certain height and barbed wires be placed on them. He said that no leniency should be shown in installation of CCTV cameras, metal detectors and appointment of security guards for schools.
The minister directed the EDOs to ensure arrangements of sweeping on the premises of schools and keep a watchful eye on the surrounding areas. He said that the principle of using only one gate for movement in educational institutions should be strictly implemented and a register should be placed at the gate for writing the particulars of the visitors.
He minister directed that important numbers should also be displayed in the principal’s office, classrooms and staff rooms. He said that proper arrangements were necessary for the protection of potable water in educational institutions.
Mashhood further said that 1122, civil defence and other agencies should carry out imaginary exercises for the protection of students, teachers and local population so that awareness could be created among the people regarding corrective measures.
The minister said that mobile vans of police specified for schools should regularly patrol schools and their surrounding sand in case of need, special branch officials should be called for security clearance.
He also instructed the EDOs to make arrangements of displaying charts and banners for promoting accommodation, mutual respect, tolerance, forbearance and interfaith harmony in educational institutions so that students should supplement efforts of the government for eliminating extremism, terrorism, non-tolerance and sectarianism.
