The Punjab government has approved a package for education of children working at brick kilns across the province.
The approval was accorded by Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif while chairing a meeting through video link on Saturday.
Sharif said that eliminating child labour at brick kilns was his mission, adding that the owners of brick kilns found violating the labour laws would be sent to jails.
As per details, the package envisages monthly scholarships for children working at brick kilns besides free of cost provision of stationery, books and uniform.
The chief minister said that those parents would be given Rs 2,000 each who would send their children, doing labour at brick kilns, to schools. He further said that these children would also receive Rs 1,000 each.
Two brick kilns sealed; 40 child labourers rescued: The district administration, in its ongoing drive against child labour on Saturday, raided two brick kilns in Batapur area and rescued 40 children besides arresting two accused.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Usman supervised the operation carried out by a heavy police contingent.
