Dense fog on Sunday disrupted life in several cities including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, and Muzzafargarh, with at least six killed in road accidents.
Fog continued engulfing Islamabad, Rawalpindi and various parts of Punjab and interfered with flight operations.
Authorities informed that fog reduced visibility to zero in several cities including Peshawar, Multan, Lodhran, Khanewal and Sahiwal.
The severe wave of cold coupled with the fog and chilly winds made the conditions frigid. Citizens remained holed up in their homes to avoid the cold weather.
Meanwhile due to low visibility, a trailer hit two motorcycles near Noor Kabra, Muzzafargarh, on DG Khan Road killing five persons, including two children and a woman.
Similarly a woman was killed and three other persons were injured in a truck-car collision due to poor visibility near Pindi Bhattian Interchange.
In a passenger van and pick-up collision in Multan’s Qasarpurawah seven were injured. The injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital.
Visibility was barely at 20-30 meters at Motorway M-1 from Islamabad to Peshawar, at M-2 from Lahore to Sayyal Mor and in areas of Chakri, Salt Range and Kalar Kahar.
The fog also reduced visibility to just a maximum of 25-50 meters at motorway M-3 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad and at M-4 from Faisalabad to Gojra. Maximum visibility at GT road from Kharian to Peshawar was just at 20-50 meters.
A motorway spokesperson in a warning asked the motorists to use fog lights and keep a considerable distance from other vehicles while driving in the extreme weather conditions. National Highway and Motorway authorities have also advised drivers to avoid over speeding.
