Tremors jolt parts of KP

An earthquake of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday morning, but there was no loss of life or property reported.

According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake was centred near Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region at a depth of 80 kilometres. The jolts were felt in Bajaur Agency, FATA, Buner, Malakand, Swat and adjoining areas.

People came out from their houses and workplaces for open spaces fearing a strong quake.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) website, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5 with the epicentre reported 13 kilometres west of Ashkasham area in Afghanistan at a depth of 90.7 kilometres.
