Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Friday called for the removal of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as minister for interior over the Charsadda carnage.

During an informal talk with journalists in Islamabad, Khursheed said that every person condemned the terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University but there was no word from the interior minister on the tragic incident. He said that pointing fingers at Chaudhry Nisar was now being considered similar to criticising the prime minister.

“The responsibility of preventing such incidents lies directly on the interior minister,” he said. “Chaudhry Nisar is not fit for the post of interior minister. He should be given any other portfolio,” he said. The opposition leader said that the prime minister would have to take a decision in this regard. He also demanded that a judicial inquiry be ordered into the Charsadda tragedy.

However, reacting to the opposition leader’s remarks, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Talal Chaudhry regretted that Khursheed Shah had made such a demand despite knowing that the interior minister was unwell.

“Khursheed Shah shouldn’t give such statements. It was unfair to demand someone’s removal over his health,” he said, adding that the interior minister was performing his duty responsibly and honestly.

  1. The cat has come out of the bag. And the charge is very serious. Khurshid Shah had been saying a lot about the arrest of Dr Asim, a former PPP Minister and a close confidant of Mr 10%. He and Mr Chandio had been resisting Dr Asim's arrest and Rangers' operation in Karachi but now the hate has spread at National level. Time to sit back and think for the PM. Matter of fact in a democratic set-up an Interior Minister would have resigned.
