KE’s Operation Burq

The latest commercial of Karachi Electric (KE) being aired on TV these days claims that after successful completion of its phase-1 operation, KE is heading towards phase-2. The commercial which features an Indain TV and movie actor warns the KE consumers that anyone found indulging in electricity theft will be put behind bars. It also builds the hope of consumers of reduced load shedding provided they pay their electricity bills on time.

Every successive government in the last three decades have made similar claims of bringing an end to electricity load shedding, but load shedding continues.

I think KE should first tell its consumers as to who ordered removal of copper wires from electricity poles all over Karachi and replace it with white metal cables? Copper cables are far more superior compared to white metal cables which not only increases consumer’s electricity bills but often melts down causing electricity failures.

After completion of phase-2, KE should start its phase-3 with removal of white metal wires and replacing them with copper cables all over Karachi. If KE can’t do this, then they should at least tell its consumers where did the copper wires worth billions of rupees go which were removed in the last couple of years. Media should investigate the copper wire replacement issue in the larger public interest.
