Arrangements are underway for handing over some 20 district government departments to the elected local government representatives.
The elected mayors and chairman District Council Rawalpindi will take control of the government departments in March.
The departments are currently being controlled by the Dictrci Coordination Officer (DCO) and with the transfer of their charge; the DCO will lose his powers.
After the change of guards in March, the heads of departments, including health, education, agriculture, forests, social welfare, law, tehsil municipal authorities, revenue, civil defence, environment and others will be answerable to the elected representatives.
It may be added a high level meeting was held a few days ago in which the heads of 20 departments were directed to prepare lists of their employees, assets, vehicles, funds etc.
