Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari faced tough questions about the Sindh government and its tarnished image during his recent visits to Lahore and Islamabad.

The party chairman had called meetings of anxious party leaders and workers from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in an effort to revive the ailing party in the two provinces but majority of the workers and leaders expressed concerns over the negative perception of Qaim Ali Shah’s government in Sindh.

“The majority of party men advised the chairman to go ahead in changing the command of the Sindh government as the poor image of Qaim Ali Shah’s governance was inducing negative sentiment for the party in the rest of country,” a source told Pakistan Today.

According to sources, Bilawal agreed with workers that the Sindh government’s performance was not up to the mark.

“But his silence on suggestions regarding changing the chief minister and other provincial cabinet members reflected his inability to do something about it. He can propose development schemes and also float good governance ideas in Sindh but can’t bring changes in the government,” the source added.

The source further said that Bilawal also expressed concerns over the manner that the Sindh government was being portrayed in the media and thought that the PPP was still facing an ‘unending media trial’.

“When any child dies in Lahore or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the media does not create the kind of hype they do when a child dies in Thar,” the source quoted Bilawal as saying.

In different meetings with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP workers from various districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa harshly criticised the party’s local leaders and former ministers.

“Even former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had to digest severe criticism from PPP workers in front of Bilawal. He had no words to defend his poor performance and services for the party in the recently held local bodies polls in Punjab,” said the source, adding that Bilawal had a firm conviction to revive the party by its reorganisation, and removal of deadwood.

A reliable source told Pakistan Today that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was not happy with the two former prime ministers – Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf. In his assessment ‘they were of no use for the party’ but at the same time could not be sidelined due to their stature.

“Bilawal thinks stalwarts of the party are doing no service for the party and young and educated workers are the ones who can make a mark for the party,” the source said.

  1. Bilawal Zardari had been hinting removing some 'uncles' who have become 'redundant' but could not do nothing because he has no powers by himself even if Chairman of the party. As far, QAS, the remote controlled CM of Sind is concerned, he can not be blamed. He is there because he is there – thrusted upon the Province – even if he forgets his seat in the Assembly. One, he gets dictation from across the Arabian Sea and two, he is helpless in front of the very special 'adviser' from Larkana – M/s Chandio. "Children in Thar are dying due to neglect of the illiterate mothers and Will of the Almighty" said Mr Chandio. Anyway, the PPP Chairman and PPPP Chairman and family are enjoying in a Super-luxury Hotel in New York and have no worry what is happening back home.
