The Supreme Court upholding election tribunal’s verdict on Thursday ordered re-election in NA-153 Vehari after rejecting appeal of ruling party’s MNA Dewan Ashiq over fake degree challenged by PPP candidate.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case.

During the proceedings, the CJ remarked that how a person could pass BA and MA without intermediate. Laws were brought in action against fake academic credentials so that bogus people could not sit in the parliament, he added.

The SC upheld the election tribunal’s verdict and ordered re-election in NA-153.

It may be added that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Dewan Ashiq Hussain won the general elections 2013 securing over 90,000 votes against Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Rana Qasim Noon Khan. The latter, however, had approached the tribunal against Dewan’s alleged fake degree and concealment of assets.

The tribunal had annulled the results and ordered a re-election.

Ashiq had also won 2008 election by around 70,000 votes from NA-153, but his election was declared null and void by the tribunal as he could not produce his intermediate certificate.
