NA deputy speaker concerned over delay in construction of family suites for MPs

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi on Wednesday expressed annoyance over the delay in construction of additional family suites and servant quarters for the parliamentarians and their staff and directed the CDA to accelerate the pace of work on the project and to ensure its completion within given time.

He said this during his visit to construction site to inspect pace of work. He expressed his reservations over the poor performance of the construction firm and said that due to delay in completion of the project those parliamentarians who were not provided accommodations in parliament lodges were facing difficulties and compelled to reside in hostels or hotels.

He said the said project was initiated in 2011 and was scheduled to be completed in 2013, however, due to slow pace of work the project could not complete in stipulated time. He said that time of completion of project was extended and the construction firm was directed to complete the project till September. However, only 30% work has been done so far.

The matter was repeatedly brought into the notice of CDA and directions were conveyed for getting the family suite completed without further delay, however, construction work was far behind the schedule. He said that no further delay in revised scheduled of construction will be tolerated and strong administrative measures will be taken in that case.

Earlier, the member engineering CDA briefed the deputy speaker about the development in the project. Deputy Speaker directed CDA to submit a detailed report on the progress in the project to the National Assembly standing committee on house and library.
