Death toll in Thar rises to 75 in just 21 days as two more children die of famine on Thursday.

Four-days-old child of Haneef Somro died in Mathrio village, newborn baby of Mitthan in Waghu Bajeer village, one-year-old baby in Dhabro Junejo village, three-day old baby in Diplo and three-year-old in Shadi Rand village died in the civil hospital.

However, the mobile teams formed by the Sindh government have yet not reached the far-flung areas. Hunger continued to claim lives in Thar as children keep on suffering from depravation of food and water in Mitthi while the relief activities in the area also remain suspended.

Poor residents are longing for food, drinking water and medicines. The plight of children in southern Sindh province highlights the provincial government’s incompetence to deal with the situation. The Tharparkar district in the famous Thar desert spans over 1,20,000 square miles across the Indo-Pak subcontinent.

  1. Even if the Summer season far away, people are dying in Thar – part of the Sind Province. "Death is Allah's will – children are dying due to carelessness of illiterate mothers" says the all important Sind Government spokesman Mr Chandio. Last year also people were dying of starvation and lack of medical facilities besides scarcity of drinking water. The whole PPP leadership, including Bilawal Zardari reached there for photo-session. Nothing has improved. One writer says nothing like that happens in Indian part of the same Thar dessert. Not a matter of shame ?
