Singer-Actor Ali Zafar, who made his Bollywood debut playing the lead role in Tere Bin Laden, will be seen playing a special role in the film’s spin-off.
Many have been questioning Ali’s absence in upcoming film Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive as he had played a major role in the previous film. Director of both films, Abhishek Sharma puts an end to the speculations stating that although the Pakistani singer does not play the lead, he does have a “special role” in the new release.
“The journey of Ali’s character in the first film has completed and this film [sequel] is about the character Sharma [played by Manish Paul]. In the sequel, Ali has a very special role, when you watch the film, you’ll understand why he couldn’t do the main role,” he explained at the trailer launch on Tuesday.
“I think the trailer has given enough hints. Only Ali Zafar could have played this special role, I don’t think he could’ve played Manish’s character. The answer lies in the film. Once you see it you will not miss Ali since he’s brilliant in this film as well,” he added.
Ali’s character in the first film was of a journalist desperate to go to the US. This time, however, the main character Sharma is an aspiring filmmaker from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk who wishes to make a big film.
The film puts together Sharma’s struggles, how he lands in Mumbai, starts making the film, and the events that follow.
“I’m very excited because everyone wants to do a film and I have received the opportunity to be a part of such a big film. The film’s ready and I’m damn sure that people will like it,” he added.
Manish said the first time he had met Sharma, it was for a different film — a smaller role — and the actor had then suggested being the lead in Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive. Surprisingly, the earlier film was never made and this one is soon to hit theatres.
