Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday presided over a high level meeting to review overall law and order situation and measures taken under the National Action Plan (NAP) for elimination of terrorism.
The meeting expressed satisfaction over the steps taken under NAP for curbing terrorism, extremism and sectarianism. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that protection of life and property of people was the top priority of the government and that the Punjab government was taking all possible measures for this purpose. He said that police should perform their duties efficiently for elimination of the criminal elements. He said that supremacy of law should be ensured in the province and no effort should be spared for the provision of justice. He said that the steps taken for routing out terrorism and extremism under NAP are yielding positive results. He said that in order to eliminate terrorism, extremism and sectarianism, amendments have been introduced in the law and punishments have been made more stringent.
Sharif directed the concerned institutions to continue indiscriminate action against banned organisations and that their activities should be completely checked. He further directed that action should be continued indiscriminately against the publication and distribution of literature spreading religious hatred. He said that the law regarding the ban on the use of loudspeakers and wall-chalking should be strictly implemented. He said that speeches promoting hatred are not tolerable and indiscriminate action should be taken against elements involved in such activities as there is a need for promotion of peace, brotherhood and tolerance in the society.
Sharif said that there is no room for terrorism, extremism and sectarianism in Quaid’s Pakistan and the whole nation is united to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said that indiscriminate and effective action would continue against terrorists and their facilitators for completing the mission of restoring peace in the country. He said that terrorism and extremism would be routed out from the country.
Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaulla, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, inspector general Police, secretaries of Home, Public Prosecution and Information departments and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
