Justice delayed, denied and lynched!

Court told that Kanju is in Canada even as appeal against his acquittal is still pending;

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday re-issued notices to Mustafa Kanju and others on an appeal against their acquittal in the Zain murder case.

The bench ordered the station house officer South Cantt Police Station to ensure serving of notices and to submit a report in this regard on February 3.

The LHC bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi re-issued notices on an appeal filed by the provincial prosecution department.

As the proceedings started, co-accused Sikandar Azam appeared before the court in compliance with the notices.

However, Mustafa Kanju, Sadiq Amin, Asif Rehman, Akramul Haq and Shahzad Iqbal did not appear.

At this stage, an ASI apprised the court that he went to the residence of Mustafa Kanju to serve the court notices but he was told that the accused had gone to Canada.

To which, Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Abdul Samad told the court that a judicial magistrate had initiated proceedings to declare Mustafa Kanju a proclaimed offender in another case. He requested the court to initiate proceedings for declaring the accused a proclaimed offender.

However, the bench ordering for reissuance of notices observed that if the accused failed to appear despite the serving of the notices, the court would proceed as per law the matter.
