I am a teacher in a private school in Gilgit city. After I knew about auction of the WLL spectrum for Gilgit and AJK, I feel that I should appreciate this step. As I studied in Islamabad and I faced many difficulties while connecting to family because GB has not been given enough importance to have high speed internet and better telecom services so far, but now PTCL and link.net will provide internet services in GB and AJK. As an educationist, I feel very happy over this tremendous breakthrough. Till now, the people of GB were facing severe issues in telecom services, highlighted by the lack of wireless broadband despite its widespread availability in the rest of the country.
I am sure that PTCL’s high speed internet would pave the way towards further prosperity and development. This will not only help the education sector but will also provide greater opportunities to these regions’ business communities. Also, with tourism being one of the primary drivers of socio-economic development within these regions, the introduction of such high-tech services would allow everyone to more easily share the beauty of these areas with the rest of the world. Not only tourists, but residents of these regions which comprise of a significant proportion of the country’s expat community would also be able to better stay in touch with their loved ones. I just hope that GB and AJK can also finally look forward to more of such essential telecom services and remain on par with the rest of the nation in terms of overall development.
