Six members of a family, including a woman and a child, were killed and two others injured when a speeding dumper-truck collided with a rickshaw in Gulshan-e-Hadid area on Monday.
According to rescuers, a couple along with their son and daughter, and two relatives were heading somewhere on a rickshaw when a speeding dumper truck hit the three-wheeler. As a result, two of them were killed on the spot while four others succumbed to their wounds while being ferried to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police have arrested the driver of the truck and impounded his vehicle. According to police officials, the ill-fated family hailed from Bahawalpur city of Punjab.
Separately, 45-year-old Munir Malik was injured when a speeding vehicle hit him in Quaidabad area near National Highway. He was shifted to Sindh Social Security Hospital for treatment.
