The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday dismissed an application for urgent hearing of a petition filed by super model Ayyan Ali requesting for removal of her name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
The SHC bench dismissed the plea seeking hearing of the petition on urgent basis and now Ayyan’s petition will be heard on February 8th. Earlier, the Ayyan’s counsel submitted that placing Ayyan’s name in ECL was the violation of fundamental rights and Article 18 of Pakistan’s Constitution. Citing the interior ministry and airport authorities as respondents, the petitioner prayed the court to direct them to remove her name from the ECL.
The model was arrested from Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Airport, Islamabad, on 14th of March 2015, when she was allegedly trying to smuggle half million US dollars. The passport of Ayyan Ali and $500,000 were confiscated by the custom authorities.
Last year, the custom authorities returned the passport of Ayyan Ali facing charges of currency smuggling, after the special court of customs excise and taxation in Rawalpindi approved her plea for returning the passport.
