A youth riding a motorcycle was shot dead by police on Sunday night after he did not stop his two-wheeler at a police check post in the area, officials said.
Identified as Shaharyar, the victim along with his friend Tahir Khan was heading somewhere on his bike when a police team signaled him to stop near Gizri area. As he did not stop his motorcycle, the policemen fired shots at him, one of which hit him in the head.
Gizri SHO Latif said two police officials, Altaf and Mudassir, had been taken into custody, adding that a case had been registered against them on the complaint of Tahir Khan, who was accompanying Shaharyar on the motorcycle.
Shaharyar, a resident of Karachi’s Landhi area, was admitted to Jinnah Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds Monday morning. The body was handed over to the heirs.
