PEMRA imposes Rs 1m fine on SAMAA TV for airing ‘vulgar programme’

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has recommended imposition of Rs 1 million fine on SAMAA TV for airing an indecent programme.

SAMAA TV on July 22, 2015 in its programme “Wardaat” aired a reenactment of a crime story in which a “vulgar text message” from a boy to girl was shown in its original form.

The case was referred to Council of Complaints, Karachi upon not receiving any reply from SAMAA TV management.

The Council of Complaints held its meeting on January 14, 2016 and after listing viewpoint of TV channel and watching recording of the programme has recommended imposition of Rs one million fine.
