Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Election Commission Secretary Col (r) Khalid Zahoor on Sunday said that PTI was the only political party in South Asia that was conducting direct intra-party elections through mobile phones.

In an interview with the news agency on Sunday, he said that election polling staff would be provided special training in all four provinces to hold transparent elections.

“All PTI bodies stand dissolved in the provinces as of January 15, and their funds will be frozen,” Zahoor said and added that a helpline had been established.

Khalid said that Election Commission and other government institutions would be assisting with the electoral process.

“Wherever there is no mobile coverage, district coordinator will be assisting the process,” he said.

He added that PTI’s intra party elections were questioned the last time around “but we will try to address those grievances this time”.

“Elections will not be held for information and finance positions. The members will be chosen for these slots,” Zahoor said, adding that PTI had not dissolved its bodies in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan as their forthcoming elections would be held in May.

Answering a question, he said that PTI had also provided a helpline number through which people could access information in English, Urdu, Pashto and Balochi languages. No one can contest the elections from two union councils, he added.
