Ombudsman directs to set up independent pensioners’ cell

Wafaqi Mohtasib (Ombudsman) has directed all the ministries and divisions to set up independent pensioners’ cell and appoint a focal person for dealing with the issues of pensioners and has sought a compliance report by February 1.

The ministries and divisions were further directed to evolve an automated system for pension cases which may be connected later on with AGPR for early settlement of pension claims, the order said.

The focal person should be a BS-20 officer for streamlining and early resolution of the pension cases of the government employees.

It was further directed that all the pension cases should be processed and finalised well before the retirement dates of the employees.

The ministries and division were asked to submit the list of the pending pension cases referred to AGPR along with information about their current status and reasons if they hadn’t been finalised.

“Effort may be made for computerised service record of all employees including entering the service books in the system,” the order said.

They were further directed to hold regular monthly meetings with AGPR on the issues of pension cases and their resolution and to intimate the Ombudsman Secretariat of the meetings.
