Dense fog Sunday gripped several parts of Punjab causing disruption of air and land traffic.

The spokesman of Motorway Police said, visibility is low due to dense fog and motorway from Lahore to Pindi Bhattian has been closed for all kind of traffic. He said several cities of Punjab including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Narowal, Bhakkar and Kasur are under grip of dense fog. He directed commuters to avoid unnecessary travelling and keep fog lights on during travelling.

Dense fog also disrupted air traffic. The flights for Madina, London, Istanbul, Sharjah and Jeddah were postponed due to dense fog.

PIA has requested travelers to recheck flight timings from its call centre before leaving for airports, as dense fog in various cities of Punjab has disturbed flight schedule causing inconvenience to passengers especially at Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Lahore airports.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, a PIA spokesman said that safety is of paramount importance for the airline therefore flights to and from these destinations have to be delayed till visibility improves beyond 350 meters.

He said due to the state-of-the-art ILS Cat III-B system, Lahore airport is the least affected, but when visibility drops below 50 meters flights cannot be operated there as well.

He said fog is a weather phenomenon and passengers are requested to cooperate with PIA staff and understand that flights in fog affected areas are being delayed for their own safety.

Whenever flights are delayed, PIA staff arranges free meals and accommodation for passengers, he added.
