At least 36 more cases of Swine flu Saturday surfaced in different areas of Punjab.
According to the Director General Health Punjab, all the hospitals in the province had been put on alert with the confirmation of some 36 more patients affected by the Swine flu. Total 95 patients were suffering from the deadly virus while 12 patients have died so far – eight of them in Rawalpindi and Multan, four in Chakwal and Muzaffargarh and two in Lahore, he added.
Meanwhile, the The National Institute of Health (NIH) in its advisory on Saturday, said besides people with immune deficiency, those suffering from cancer, heart disease and asthma as well as pregnant women could fall victim to Swine flu.
The NIH advised the people to take precautionary measures for a month and avoid going to open spaces.
Blood samples of patients from Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan had been received for verification of Swine flu virus, it added.
It may be added that the Swine flu virus mostly attacks weak and less immune people.
Over 2,700 died in India of Swine flu between May 2009 and December 2010. Last year, India recorded 218 swine flu-related deaths.
