Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif visited Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on Thursday where he was briefed on the defence products manufactured in the facility.

The briefing covered Al-Khalid–1 Tank, manufacturing and rebuild of Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) and security vehicles Dragoon, Protector and Mohafiz. The COAS also witnessed the production and demonstration of Al-Khalid–1 Tank.

Speaking on the occasion, General Raheel Sharif appreciated the efforts of HIT in manufacturing international standard defence and safety equipment as well as its support to field formations including Operation Zarb-e-Azb. The COAS encouraged efforts of indigenisation and commercialisation of HIT products. He also praised the Indigenous security vehicles “Mohafiz” and “Protector”. He emphasised the need to maintain highest standards of quality while also ensuring savings of the national exchequer through self reliance.

The Ministry of Defence Production secretary was also present on the occasion. Earlier on his arrival to HIT, the COAS was received by Heavy Industries Taxila Chairman Lieutenant General Syed Wajid Hussain.
