BISP to replace debit cards with biometric system

Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) plans to replace the current debit card system with biometric system to provide cash assistance to beneficiaries through fingerprints only.

This was stated by BISP chairperson Marvi Memon at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to review various new proposed initiatives.

She said the number of cash-out points will be increased manifold to facilitate the beneficiaries across the country. Marvi Memon also briefed the meeting on the proposed updating of National Socio-Economic Registry as well as the proposed new banking model of BISP.

The meeting was informed that BISP database is the most reliable on the socio-economic status of 27 million households. It is being used by multiple social sector programmes of both federal and provincial governments.
