During the hearing investigating officer presented report before the judge of ATC that Tahir Mashadi’s presence during the speech has not been confirmed and no proofs have been found against him. Therefore, he should be free from custody of the Police.

The judge while reviewing the report gave the decision in favour of the MQM member and released him.

A case against Senator Tahir Mashadi was registered in New Town police station. He was accused of arranging MQM’s chief Altaf Hussain’s speech and praising him during the meantime.

  1. It is good to hear that with MQM Senator colonel (retd) Tahir Mashhadi’s presence not confirmed during Altaf Hussain’s speech, and no proofs having been presented to that end, the Anti-terrorism court held him not guilty of the most serious offence of arranging and praising’ MQM Chief Altaf Hussain’s speech.’

While the acquittal sounds good but even the thought that in this day and age, a case like this – which displays nothing but a bloated sense of honour – could be filed, and going a step further, considered by an Anti-Terrorism court worthy of a hearing – sounds strange, and that is putting it mildly.

The nation seems to have a fantastic capacity to get entangled with, and waste time and energy over frivolous issues while totally ignoring important matters which ought to take up more of its time and attention.

No wonder the country is in the state that it is in.
