France has banned three extremist cultural associations which ran a mosque in the Paris area that was shut down following November’s extremist attacks on the capital, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Wednesday.

“There is no place in the French republic for groups which provoke and which call for terrorism or call for hate,” Cazeneuve said.

Earlier, in December Police shut a mosque east of Paris and arrested the owner of a revolver found in related raids on Wednesday as part of a crackdown called after the November 13 attacks on the capital, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.

It was the first time France had taken such action against places of worship suspected of nurturing what the Interior Minister called “extremist radicalisation”.
